Attending an Interview - Basic Rules

by .

When going to an interview you need to obey a few basic rules:

1. Try and look neat and tidy. Make an effort.
2. Arrive on time - ideally 5 to 10 minutes before the interview time.
3. Look the interviewer in the eye, smile, and shake hands firmly.
4. Don`t assume the interviewer has read your CV or application form. They probably did, but they`re interviewing 20 people over the next few days, and have probably forgotten what was on it - so remind them!
5. Sit in an upright position and try to look interested in the interviewer`s comments. Don`t slouch and say "Yeah, cool man."
6. Seem interested in the job. Especially when asked "Why do you want this job?", don`t answer, "Dunno really." Find positive reasons why you want to work for this company - no matter how flea bitten the place may appear. Its better to have a job offer to turn down than no job offer at all.
7. Be yourself. Relax. You may be spending the next few years of your life with this person on a daily basis, so stay calm and just be yourself. If they like you they like you and if they don`t don`t worry - there are other jobs.
